Interpreters are often asked a variety of questions by individuals wanting to know more about the field and/or deafness. The questions about the field of interpreting generally fall into two main categories: personal and professional. The personal questions are the ones that relate to what makes that interpreter unique (i.e. their qualifications). These questions are frequently followed by the general questions about the profession (i.e. business and ethical standards). If ever the interpreter is asked something about deafness, it frequently reflects a lack of experience interacting with deaf individuals. The links below can answer these types of questions and more. Although they are provided for your convenience, know that you are more than welcome to ask me or other interpreters any questions you might have. If you need further information let me know, and I will find a way to get it to you.
